Coding and non-coding RNAs in cancer: a bioinformatic approach
Transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation are key determinants in the modulation of the expression of final gene products. microRNAs control target genes expression mainly, but not only, at the post-transcriptional level and play an essential role in cancer biology. Gene regulation by miRNAs is related to the function of transcription factors at the transcriptional level, showing a complex coordination of multiple molecular components in the regulation of gene expression. The regulatory role of other, non canonical short- and long-non-coding RNAs is emerging as absolutely relevant for cancer development and progression. RNAs are currently considered important prognostic factors and innovative target for new therapies. The present project aims at the development and application of bioinformatic tools for the analysis of coding and non-coding RNAs expression and quality using high-throughput technologies
